Choose a private Morocco tour if you want control over your pace, route and company. Choose a group tour if a lower price and meeting other travelers matter more than flexibility.
The right choice in the private vs group Morocco tours question depends on how you like to travel. Morocco covers 712,550 square kilometers, roughly three times the size of the UK, and the classic route covers a lot of ground: Casablanca, Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara at Merzouga, the Dades Valley, Ouarzazate and Marrakech. How you cover that ground changes the whole trip. To see how long each route takes, read how many days you need in Morocco.
This guide compares both formats honestly, so you can decide before you book.

What Group Tours Do Well, and Where They Fall Short
Group tours are the cheapest way to see Morocco’s highlights, and they suit some travelers very well.
Where they work
- Lower cost per person, because transport and guiding are shared
- Built-in company if you are traveling alone
- Little planning, since the route and hotels are already set
Where they fall short
- The schedule is fixed. If you love a medina and want another hour, the group still leaves on time.
- Morocco involves long driving days, especially between Fes and the Sahara. On a group tour, everyone follows the same timetable, with stops chosen for the group.
- You cannot skip a stop that does not interest you, and the pace is set by the group.
- Departure dates are set, so your trip has to fit the operator’s calendar.
- Needs such as limited mobility, dietary requirements or traveling with teenagers are harder to plan around in a larger group.
Simply Morocco is preparing small group departures through Marrakech, the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara. If a group trip fits you better, join the waitlist on our group tours page. What a Private Morocco Tour Gives You
A private tour shows you the same country on your own terms. The difference shows up in four places.
A route that fits you. Want an extra night in the Sahara, a slower stay in Fes, or one stop fewer? On a private tour the route is adjusted for you. Travelers who need to limit climbing can skip the optional climb at Ait Ben Haddou and photograph it from the foothill, or leave out Chefchaouen, which is built on a mountainside with many stairs.
A pace you control. You choose when to start the day, how long to stay in a medina, and where to stop for lunch. Long drives can be broken up, for example with a night at Aguelmame Sidi Ali between Fes and Merzouga. Our Slow Morocco route is built entirely around shorter driving days.
Company you chose. Only your party is in the vehicle. This matters most for couples, families with teenagers and friends traveling together, and for a trip like a honeymoon in Morocco.
Comfort on the road. You travel in a recent-model, private, air-conditioned 4×4 or van with an English-speaking driver, used by your party only. Spanish-speaking drivers and guides can also be arranged.
A private itinerary also gives you more time where it counts: two nights in the Sahara at Merzouga with the camel trek into the dunes, and, when Fes is on the route, stops at Meknes and Volubilis on the way. See what a night in the dunes looks like in our Sahara desert camp guide, and read our full Morocco private tours planning guide.
Which One Should You Choose?
Most couples, families and first-time visitors are better served by a private tour. Solo travelers on a tight budget often prefer a group.
A private tour suits you if:
- You are traveling as a couple, a family or a group of friends
- You want to set your own pace and dates
- You have mobility needs or dietary requirements
- It is your first trip to Morocco and you want the logistics handled for you
- You would rather spend long drives with people you know
A group tour suits you if:
- You are traveling solo and want built-in company
- Budget is your top priority
- You are happy to follow a fixed schedule
A note for solo travelers: a private tour costs more per person when only one person travels, because pricing is based on two people sharing. Ask for the solo price up front. Women traveling alone can read our guide to Morocco solo female travel.

Private vs Group Morocco Tours: FAQ
Is a private tour in Morocco worth it? For couples, families and first-time visitors, usually yes. You get your own driver and guide, a route built around you, and the freedom to change the pace, for a higher price per person than a group tour.
Is a private tour much more expensive than a group tour? The price per person is higher, but the vehicle, driver and guide are shared across your own party, so the gap shrinks as your group grows. Ask for a quote for your group size and dates to compare properly.
Can I travel alone on a private tour? Yes. A solo private tour costs more per person, because pricing is based on two travelers sharing.
Can I change the route? Yes. Our tours run from 3 to 14 days, and every itinerary can be adjusted to your interests and pace.
Do I need to book flights through you? No. You arrange your own flights, and we build the itinerary around your confirmed times.
