We will leave the city and head towards the High Atlas Mountains, making our way to the Dades Valley. As we travel through spectacular landscapes, we will encounter several small villages clinging to the mountainsides. This journey will allow us to visit some of the most remote areas on the way south. We will stop at the historic Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou and learn about its history. Here, we will have lunch before continuing our journey to Dades, passing along the “Route of a Thousand Kasbahs” to reach our destination.
Today you will complete your journey to the Sahara Desert. As you continue your journey, stop in Tinghir to visit the Todra Gorge, cut through the red rock through a winding river.
Arrive in the Sahara Desert in the afternoon and meet your camels for your trek into your desert camp. You will journey through the dunes, and your camel guide will be able to get some great pictures for you as well!
Arrive at your camp and enjoy a welcome glass of Moroccan mint tea and take some time to relax before dinner. Dinner included. After dinner, enjoy live music around the bonfire, or perhaps head to the top of the dune for some star gazing. Just watch out for the camels that roam the desert at night!
Overnight in the Sahara Desert.
Wake up early to witness the breathtaking desert sunrise over the dunes. Keep in mind that desert nights can be chilly, so be sure to bring your jacket! Afterward, savor a traditional Moroccan breakfast at the camp.
Next, rendezvous with your driver once more and embark on your westward journey to Ouarzazate, passing through Rissani and several Berber villages along the way, all while surrounded by the majestic mountains. Enjoy a delicious lunch in the village of N’Kob. Continuing on, you’ll be treated to scenic views of the Draa Valley, which is the largest river valley in Morocco.
Your day will conclude with an overnight stay in Ouarzazate.
As you head out of Ouarzazate, make a stop to explore the city itself, often referred to as the “Gateway to the Sahara.” Ouarzazate is home to the famous Taourirt Kasbah, a historic adobe fortress that once served as the residence of the Glaoui family, who ruled the region in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The city is also known for its film studios, where many famous movies and TV shows have been shot, including Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones.
Continue your journey across the Atlas Mountains via the winding Tichka Pass, which offers breathtaking views of the rugged landscape. You’ll arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon, where you will be dropped off at your accommodations.
